Rosette design and metarials

dubai244 - 8-12-2008 at 07:23 PM

Hi Guys,

I am thinking of new oud. But this time it will be some thing different from my collections. I want to decide which rosette design and metarials should i order for my new oud.

I would like to know Rosette designs (with pictures will be great) and from which metarials they made from, other than plastic and bones?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Dubai! There are probably as many rosette designs as there are oud players! Perhaps if you contact some of the oud makers directly, they might be able to show you what they have to offer? Here's a picture of the rosette on my oud; made of wood with the centre calligraphy made of bone. It was done by Nazih Ghadban. regards, MW

It's interesting to see two such different designs within the same tight constraints. The first one has echoes of Norse samples from the first millennium AD, the second has parts which look like Elizabethan knotwork. Wonder which way the ideas flowed?

Any more stunning roses?
