Riad El-Soumbati Taqasim CD Reissued

John Erlich - 10-29-2008 at 09:16 AM

Riad El-Soumbati's classic taqasim CD has been reissued. I am very happy to have it, since the sound quality of my cassette version was terrible.

My two gripes: The English title of the CD, "Oud: The Breath of Arabic Music" and CD jacket information don't even mention Riad El-Soumbati; there are no liner notes at all.

You can buy it here: http://www.buyarabic.com/storeItem.asp?ic=MUAR002427

BTW: BuyArabic.com is the "Arabic" branch of of the Turkish site, Tulumba.com, which I really, really like.

Happy Listening,
John

the cover art is nice.
BUT
they could have at least put an egyptian oud on there.

I know! What's up with the Iraqi Bashir "floating bridge" oud on an Egyptian oud CD?

Yes, difficult to find the cd in this case !

If think the draw is more a pirouette to avoid the copyright of a photo and it seems there was no music consultant either...

It is already unavailable ! I'm happy I bought it just in time :D

Great music indeed. Very important CD.
Thanks to John E. to have told us about it.

Such a musician remains well alive without a signature, that's the most important.

Anyone know where I can get a copy?

Its seems like a good way to solidify my maqam studies :D
