Bought an oud from Yehia at NIle Shop

Mysterious48 - 5-18-2004 at 10:59 PM

I just wanted to say i bought an oud from Yehia and i am so pleased with it. It arrived in 5 days and the condition was very good considering its travel. the only thing i noticed was the polish on the bowl had some scratches but thats a given with most instruments anyway. Yehia was very polite and he called me right after the sale to assure me of what i was receiving. He did not give me any false expectations. In fact he made me understand that regradless of what oud i buy on EBAY its not going to be a super pro one but its a good start. These ouds maybe cheap to most of you but at 250 plus the shipping it was a big investment for me. he threw in a gig bag for 25 bucks more. so i spent a total of 385. Once i become a seasoned player i will opt for a custom oud but for now this is a good one to bang on.

P.S. he even called my friend tariq to thank him for the referral that was very nice of him

Just being curious - who makes the Nile Shop ouds?

Zulkarnain - 5-20-2004 at 06:54 AM

One of the maker is Mourice Shehata :)

What about the cheaper models?

excentrik - 5-20-2004 at 09:23 AM

the cheaper ones are built by Gawharet al-Fan in Cairo-

Isnt it cheaper to buy it direct from Gawharet el Fan?

you would think so, but the web site is unreliable if you want detailed pics and sound clips of what you are trying to buy. Yehia posts good pictures and is a prompt business man, I think he is kind of a middle man for Gawharet El Fan student ouds. Cool cat, that Yehia.
