Hi all,
I just saw the Orchestra Otmani in San Francisco and it was stellar. All young guys, 4 brothers from Fez. They played nuba Rasd al-Dhil and Oussak. It
was truly joyous! If you're on the east coast, don't miss them, or Lotfi Bouchnak or the Orchestra Tangier.

Do you ever get to hear Andalusian music like that in Andalusia?
I've been thinking of a holiday in Granada/Malaga this year.

One time I went to a tea house in the Moorish quarter in Granada and they were supposed to play Arabic music of some sort, but the musicians never
showed up! I think for the real deal you have to cross the strait to Morocco.

Yeah, unfortunately Andalusian music is rare in Andalusia, wierd huh?. But the flamenco down there is out of this world, dont miss it. C

The correct adjective for Al Andalus Music in English should be 'andalusi' and not 'andalusian'. The first word is the arabic adjective for the
ancient muslim territory encompassing as much as two thirds of the Iberian Peninsula, both Spain and Portugal, and the latter only for a christianized
and latinized region in Southern Spain. In Spanish we distinguish between 'andalusí' and 'andaluz'. Not the same but historically related.
If you want to enjoy Flamenco, make a trip to Spain.
If you want to meet andalusi music, go to Morocco, Algeria or Tunisia.
Both great musics of course.
