Oud-Tapping

Marcus - 4-2-2009 at 05:22 AM

Hi oudies :wavey:

In a formerly post I was asking for percussionsamples to make practicing funnier.

Thats another solution :D

Hope you like it.

Now that is what I call an innovation... Amazing!

Although I don't like that technique much.. but it definitely sounds better than that of Naseer Shamma. At least it's pleasant and makes you happier :)

here's a video of jouan farhan playing the oud and tapping on the neck of the oud near
the end of the video.

Yes Indeed!:applause:

Anybody else here know other oudist that user percussions or tapping technique's on Oud Except from Nasser Shamma, Driss al Maloumi, Jouan farhan?

Gracias,

Jouan Farhan is a saz player also, and the tapping technique he is using on the oud here is lifted from selpe baglama style. (I don't think he's into van Halen) :buttrock:

Thanks Saz for the Info!

Its good to put some tapping in a rhythm. But the feel needs to be in context of arabic feel otherwise it will be "out" for some traditional oudist.

:D

jouan farhan tapping on the neck of the oud technique is nothing new to most guitar players/its a standard technique to learn, no biggie.

Yes, I do :D ... but remember, that I only play oud since last month ... so I still need practicing before I will show it ;)

A further nice technique to add rhythm is hammering the strings above the pickguard ... similar to the slapping technique on bass guitar.

Good Deal Chris!:applause:

But I'm curious how to have an arabic feel in a tapping situation. Instead sounding like a redundant guitarist tapping.

Jouan Farhan applies it very nicely.....

Anymore Oud Tappers Out there?

Thanks

Because I don't play oriental music, doesn't necessarily mean, that I sound like a guitarist ;)

FLIPAX - 12-11-2009 at 04:52 AM

Off course:D LOL

Just foolin Man!

I cant find any Tapper Ouders Out there.

Hmmm... Maybe I'll Practice.

But I tried it and it does not work on the high registers. No tap sound at all.

But on the first and second positions are just fine.

But it requires a bit practice for the timing of the tap rhythm.

Its hard on a fretless. compare w/ frets.

On pure Nylon it needs more power ... tap harder!

As a former drummer I have an advantage here ;)

No Because with frets its easier and sustains more. Its okay if its in the bass wounds but the Nylons AARRGG!

Aah, Mr Softfinger :D ;)

Do I have more horny skin on my fingertips than you? I don't know, but it's not easy on Nylon for shure.
