Edward Powell - 5-11-2009 at 12:27 AM

Masel - 5-12-2009 at 01:41 AM

I am seriously thinking of going, plus I will get a chance to meet my friends in crete and enjoy that great island.

Edward Powell - 5-12-2009 at 01:46 AM

I wish I could also go....

I think especially now is a great time to go - to REALLY show support for the new incarnation of Labyrinth. ...and of course "WHAT AN OPPORTUNITY!!!!" ...to spend one week with YURDAL!

Ararat66 - 5-12-2009 at 03:09 AM

I'm also thinking of going - I work for myself and am hoping a couple of projects get the go-ahead ... wish me luck

Leon:)

MatthewW - 5-12-2009 at 03:09 AM

I agree with your sentimets 100% Edward! The cost of the week is fairly priced considering it includes accommodation and a week with Yurdal. :airguitar:
the cost of the flight at this time of the year will be on the high side though. c'est la vie.
Does anyone out there know if Yurdal gives seminars/workshops at other times of the year or how to contact him to find out? regards, MW

suz_i_dil - 5-13-2009 at 03:44 AM

Thank you for this information, but indeed the issue is the plane fare...Extremely expensive for the flights I found from France...:(
Do you know if there is cheaper way to go there, for exemple with a transit via Greece or any low cost company between France and Creete?

Edward Powell - 5-13-2009 at 03:59 AM

Last time I went there, I went over-land/sea and it was cheap. ...but sometimes I find myself when time is not an issue - and anyway I am hardcore when it comes to overland travel -- I LOVE IT! ...whereas most people hate it.

At least it should always be possible to get a cheap flight to Athens, and then take the night boat to Crete.

Ararat66 - 5-13-2009 at 06:56 AM

Yes plane flights are an issue from UK too, more than the cost of the course - I hope these projects take off, maybe swimming is an option, if I start tommorrow then.............

seems a bit rediculous actually - in fact Labyrinth is doing as much to support corporate airlines and global warming as traditional music :)) ...sorry to say it.

...why don't the UK people promote and support the NIZAR workshop. My feeling is that one big answer to the world's problems is to promote LOCALISM, rather than the STAR SYSTEM.

MatthewW - 5-13-2009 at 09:55 AM

Hey lads maybe we could rent a long boat and make our way to Crete, or do it like the Vikings and each man take an oar?;)

if anyone has connections with the good folks at Labryrinth maybe you could suggest another oud workshop/seminar with Yurdal in October or November when airfares come down? there seems to be a lot of interest and I am sure they could fill two seminars in Crete twice yearly, hey one oud workshop/seminar a year isn't enough.:D

Edward Powell - 5-13-2009 at 12:17 PM

sure I can suggest this to ross and kelly... i think they have some winter activities anyway...

Ararat66 - 5-13-2009 at 12:36 PM

Hi Matthew and Ed

They usually do late winter workshops - last year Yurdal did one in Lefkas but I couldn't make it. As to localism, well I'd love to attend Nizar's here in the UK but would also love to go to Crete - I've never been to a music workshop like this so it would be a real adventure for me.

Houdetsi and the museum are just so beautiful and interesting... when you have a little more time there it is GREAT!

suz_i_dil - 5-14-2009 at 03:47 AM

Finally I found better fares on this website, 350 euros departure from Paris...so much more better than those 2000 I first saw from my hometown airport:

Maybe it may interest you if you are leaving from England...and sorry for promoting global warming Edward :)

Edward Powell - 5-14-2009 at 04:52 AM

....I am doing my own share of that anyway:shrug:

Just talked to Labyrinth and they say that there will be winter seminars for sure and the details will be announced in mid-summer. .

Masel - 5-17-2009 at 06:36 AM

I'm going, is anyone else?

suz_i_dil - 5-17-2009 at 01:05 PM

Not sure but think I will follow one, but don't know yet between crete and the one in Istanbul in august ( check fundadundar.org or .com ).

Masel - 5-18-2009 at 04:10 AM

suz_i_dil - 5-19-2009 at 12:11 PM

Masel - 5-20-2009 at 04:22 AM

Once, I attended the Yurdal Tokcan's workshop at Crete.

You can get to the village just with TAXI from airport. Taxi driver usualy knows where to take you. It is not a short drive, but someting like 30 minutes.
It should be about 20 -30 euro.

6 hour a day oud playing - 3 in the morning, 3 afternoon. It was high level of oud players, mostly professional level players.
You sleep at private homes, people are very nice there.
There are a few restaurants & one supermarket (small) so you can get your food. It is not expensive. A few Euro for a meal.
In the meeting room, they usualy keep some coffie & tea & cookies to snack during a day.
Classroom was in the kind of comunity center. Nice.
Beautiful building with a museum. Some concerts are held there and the spectator sit in a well kept garden.
I highly recomand.
Good company, etc...
More work on music than vacation & party, but that it is about. The sea is far away. You may not see it at all.

Ararat66 - 5-20-2009 at 08:56 AM

theodoropoulos - 5-20-2009 at 11:31 AM

hallo from Crete !!
i must tell you that Labyrinth was ready to be closed and was saved by the last time....
I read here in the local newspaper that it finally overcame the difficulties and continues ...
so we must all support this man who really loves Music and Crete.
and Ross does not care about money...He cares about offering his music talent to everyone he is interested....
he is a relly lovely personality....

Masel - 6-4-2009 at 08:29 AM
