Hello Souheil.

Yes, it sounds really arabic: deep and mellow sound, but may be with more sustain.
Your taksim is amazing and the pleasure of watching the rosette doesn't stop during 7'30........
Is-it possible to know the price for such an oud?
You can answer on my email address if you prefer:
salmonfrancis@yahoo.fr
Thanks for this video and for your contribution to this forum, Souheil.

very very nice playing Souheil.
it will be interesting to hear this lovely oud as it matures! Also couldn't keep my eyes off that amazing rosette, it's like a sun shining in the heavens. Is that rosete that your design or Mattas? regards, MW

mrkmni - 5-29-2009 at 06:49 PM

Very nice playing really....
the oud sound is very nice olso I did not realize that it was floating bridge oud..
I need to buy a oud RANNAN like yours...

FastForward - 5-29-2009 at 09:55 PM

That was really beautiful, I repeated it 20 times or so. Yeah, its hard to tell that this is a floating bridge oud.

suz_i_dil - 5-30-2009 at 03:21 AM

Very well played, enjoy it in good health Souheil.

Ararat66 - 5-30-2009 at 03:59 AM

Fabulous - great playing and amazing oud (astonishing rossette!!!), I love your phrasing, there are elements of Turkish/Greek/Armenian ornamentation with the Arabic sound - I love it!

Souheil- maqam saba?

Masel - 5-30-2009 at 08:15 AM

Great taqsim Souhil.
Do you sing? If so please sing a song!
Or, listen to my idea - play a taqsim that starts on saba on D (in arabic tuning), modulates to ajam in Bb, then to kurd on low G, then finish again on saba. Try to develop each maqam and not pass through them too fast (which will be easy for you), then post it in a new thread, and make up an excersize taqsim like this one for the next person to play, I like doing this alone, in a group it should be fun, I'm sure we will learn alot!

katakofka - 5-30-2009 at 08:46 AM

okay...saba
Masel, good idea. However I am limited by the time on youtube. I'll try to develop the modulations as much as I can
To later

FastForward - 5-30-2009 at 10:43 PM

Saba would be nice, maybe Saba Husseini, you can also modulate to hijaz kar or nawa athar.

otherwise, try hijaz or sikah baladi.

Most importantly, let it flow from whatever you are feeling at the time.

To add to what others have said... I really like the phrasing...

I'd love to hear Saba....

It's a 7 courses oud
Tuning from high pitch to low : ff-cc-gg-DD-AA-FF-C
I changed the Kurschner strings recently and still having the same sound. The set is from Pyramid, the orange Label set plus a 7th string from D'addario. The ff, cc and gg are Nylon
