id be interested in the 7 course --- do you have sound samples of it?

Edward Powell - 7-23-2009 at 11:45 PM

BRAVO!

Those are really beautiful ouds, Ali!

What kind of bracing did you use, ladder or lattice?

Marina - 7-23-2009 at 11:54 PM

Beautiful!

Alioud - 7-24-2009 at 01:40 AM

Norumba... Sound samples coming soon for all the ouds and I was almost sure that the 7 course will be the most interesting because it is a really beautiful instrument.. it sounds excellent too... Look in this page in the next 2 days and you'll have a high quality sound sample and a video sample too.

Edward Powel my friend.. this time I went with ladder bracing.. all 5 ouds..
I am making 2 lattice braced ouds at the time being but I am just waiting for a shipment of some carbon fiber and Balsa wood ...

Marina and Charlie.. thanks... the ouds are indeed pretty and I have to thank my friend for his professional photography.

ammar22 - 7-24-2009 at 03:45 AM

slam ali

many thanks

Alioud - 7-24-2009 at 04:05 AM

Hi Ammar,

The ouds are 1500 USD each, and that does not include a case or shipping.

norumba - 7-24-2009 at 06:35 AM

do you have access to a case supplier ? i'd be nervous for an instrument to be shipped without a case....

really looking forward to hearing these instruments, bravo on your good work!:applause:

SamirCanada - 7-24-2009 at 12:37 PM

could you post some details of how you cut the rings around the sound holes and how you install them.

thanks,

Samir

Edward Powell - 7-24-2009 at 01:55 PM

very very very reasonable prices for such masterpieces!

do you have any fotos of the interiors.... bracing in particular?

udmaker - 7-25-2009 at 10:45 AM

Beas.One - 7-25-2009 at 11:35 AM

These are extremely beautiful especially the seven course. I was amazed.

Ararat66 - 7-25-2009 at 01:02 PM

Really fantastic ... that first oud (redwood) really looks special. I have been thinking of getting an Arabic tuned oud to go with my Tasos oud.

Sound Sample of the 7 strings oud

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 03:06 PM

Thank you all for looking at my ouds and for your nice words...

Edward.. I will post pictures of my bracing.. but I think you would be served better if I tell you the bracing plan and the bracing material..it's exact thickness, location, carving and height :)

This is a sound sample of the 7 strings oud played by my friend Moaead.. this was simply an improvisation of a sleep deprived friend.

Tell me what you think...

Cherry Padauk oud

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 03:13 PM

This is a sound of a Cherry-Padauk floating oud with a cedar top.. but the Oud is sold already, sold on it's first day of life! that's why no pictures were shown of this oud. Now the guy says he is willing to sell it back for double the price (3000 USD!!!!!!) .. lol ..

This is again the sleep deprived Moaead playing one of his compositions..

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 03:46 PM

Before anyone asks, there are no effects added to the recording.. simply a good microphone and an excellent soundcard..

The 7 strings oud is tuned C-G-A-d-g-c-f
The Cherry Padauk is tuned F-C-d-g-c-f
The Walnut oud is tuned F-C-d-g-c-f
The Colored oud is tuned E-A-d-g-c-f

One more recording for the 7 strings oud

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 03:51 PM

Again the 7 strings oud, more Sharqi style, by Fadel

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 03:54 PM

SamirCanada.. I have hundreds of pictures of the construction.. I am preparing a full thread on the forum and I will post it in the next 2 days including a detail of the rings.. the redwood oud was easy... it was a Dremel tool fitted on special routing jig (also made by dremel) that I found at a local hardware store together with excellent fine routing bits.

I will be honest .. Dremel rules .. without Dremel this would have been very difficult and not as accurate..

I also used the Dremel tool for the oval holes but I had to make my own oval routing jig.

Cheers..

Video Samples

Alioud - 7-25-2009 at 04:50 PM

This is a video of the Cherry-Padauk oud. It is the same as the recording but I don't think it is easy to believe that there are no effects added to the sound..
This is the raw video from a small camera with low quality recording..
The piece is: Immigrant Steps and is composed by Moaead, the player himself.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3UbID8AeE5I

This is the video of the 4 colors oud.. Sorry about the interruption at the end of the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9a99m9NJ-c0

This is the video of the Rosewood-Redwood oud

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0eppwhi9XMI

This is a video of the Walnut oud

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2Bu4zlQaSc

All pieces are actually compositions for Moaead.. except the Redwood oud which he wanted to improvise on.

Finally, Myself.. on my attempts to get used to a 7 course oud.. it is confusing..

Some say "this video is private" and some say "this video has been removed by the user"..

norumba - 8-4-2009 at 09:04 AM

norumba - 8-7-2009 at 12:52 AM

spyros mesogeia - 8-13-2009 at 10:36 PM

Congratulations my friend.
The result looks very well.
Keep the good work

fhalaw - 8-18-2009 at 08:55 AM

Hi any of these ouds still available? Or could you send me your info so I could contact you directly?
Also what is your location?
Thanks,
Fadi

norumba - 8-19-2009 at 11:14 PM

as Reda posted above, all the videos have been disabled or set to private. I was contacting Ali to purchase one of the ouds and had some U2U correspondence with him, but he has not been online or in touch for a couple of weeks. I 'm not sure what happened to him -- and i do hope he's ok. At this stage, i'm expanding my search for a good Iraqi 7 course oud, as I dont think this one will materialize.

fhalaw - 8-20-2009 at 09:26 AM

strange indeed.

fadel - 8-20-2009 at 04:56 PM
