D'Erlanger's Tome 5 anyone? Marcus dissertation?

fernandraynaud - 10-3-2009 at 09:23 PM

I am missing parts of D'Erlanger's La Musique Arabe volume 5, like pages 1-117. Ordering the whole 6 volume set at 390 Euros is a bit prohibitive. Does anyone have a scan of the first 117 pages of volume 5 and anything that might come after pg 332? Does anyone have a copy of vol 5 or the whole set that they would be willing to part with on less financially overwhelming terms?

Also does anyone know how to inexpensively obtain a paper copy of Scott Lloyd Marcus' 1989 dissertation: Arab Music Theory in the Modern Period. I imagine UCLA might offer a hard copy, as printing 880 pages is a bit hard on a little printer? Does anyone have a scan that is not as hard to read as the courier font of the typescript? Is there a book version out or pending?

Thanks,

You can buy the Marcus's dissertation here:

http://disexpress.umi.com

Search for "Scott Lloyd Marcus". It's $43 for a printed copy.

You could download it and print it out at Staples or something, but it would probably cost the same.

Anybody read this book: Palestian Arabic Music?

http://www.amazon.com/Palestinian-Arab-Music-Tradition-Ethnomusicol...

I have access to most of this stuff through the university music library, so I am not concerned with buying it, just wanted to see if it was worth reading?

Yes, better to buy Marcus' thesis : It would cost the same price if you print it and class it in a useful book !

fhalaw,
Interesting ! I don't know about this book, tell us if you buy it. Recently I bought :

http://www.amazon.fr/musique-arabe-Habib-Hassan-Touma/dp/2702016405...

Not transcendent.

Also I bought this one :

http://www.amazon.fr/Histoire-musique-origines-Jean-S%C3%A9bastien-...

The Iranian part is really interesting to understand Arab micro tonal intervals. But it's in French... Inside the book :
