Advice on the 3ood
Hello people,
Very very nice forum. I am an oud player (by ear) for about 13 years. I have a real talent in playing oud, but unfortunately I never finished
learning how to play it. I know the major scales (Bayat, Rast, Nahawand, etc....), but I don't know how to start them from different places.
For example, I can play the Bayat starting at the Re (middle string in the five stringged oud) and the Sol (second from below in the five stringged
oud) and the La (Third from above). What if someone asked me to change the pictch? Where could the Bayat scale start from??? can u tell me the
notes, and tell me where to find the same info for the other scales.

I don't want to bother u with my questions very much, but if possible can u quickly list the notes in which the Bayat for example could or should
be played.
by the way, I will also put the pictures of my 3ood,which is a mohammed Fadel 3ood (real thing not imitation). It has the classical shape, with the
name of mohammed fadel in the middle of the round "shamsiyyeh" with the famous sol sign infront of it.

Not hard to understand at all. Now my final question, does it usually take someone a while to play a certain scale from a different place (forexample
playing the Hijaz from C instead of D) and r u better at playing a certain scale when starting from a certain note as opposed to another one.

Hi Hilal,
I think sometimes it feels more natural to play a makam in a certain way, but it's always very important to practice the makamlar/makamat in
various keys for many reasons.
Different finger positions give way to different ornamentations that come naturally in those keys, and also it opens up the whole fingerboard for your
use in any way you want.
Beyati for example feels most natural starting on an open string, but practicing it in C (for Arabic tuning) or D (for Turkish tuning) is very
useful.

Thank you guys for your replies.
My Mohammed Fadel was made in 1994 and has as distinctive sound to it. It has the general shape of the later Fadel 3oods. I bought it for 400 dinars
(600 dollars) from Jordan. Sometimes I do wonder whether it is the real thing, even though the sound and the shape are extremely similar to what I
have seen from the Fadel 3oods. I will show you a couple of pictures soon.
Unfortunately, there is a crack in the back that happened during a party ( Kids running after each other and 3oods don't mix very well.) So, I
still have to fix it.
Made I believe from Rose wood?
Hmmm what else, the back has the pieces of wood with alternating colors, red yellowish brown.
I think Fadel's sons make these 3oods too, but they are not as good as the ones thier father makes, and perhaps its just imitation.
Mav: Thank you very much for your advice and clarification. I need to start working on my scales if I want to call myself a 3ood player. Perhaps
should be that hard.

Thats very cool Hilal.. 600 dollars thats nothing for a Fadel.
If you really want to know if its real, then you should have a chat with Ronny Andresson, he's good in Fadels ouds.
Is it easy to find a Fadel in Jordan?

Hello people,
I think there are alot of fadel 3oods in Jordan. I remember playing on one of them, and it sounded just amazing. I don't know who they manage
to produce such beautifully sounding instruments. I dont know what the names of the stores are though, one of them I think was owned by Mr.
"Faza3" (yes it means fear in arabic). I dont know if he closed it or not.

Well I would be very greateful if you could tell me where to find most of the music shops in Amman.
I usually pass yhru Amman in my way to iraq.
In iraq its very difficult fo find real fadel.

I am not from Amman, and I only remember the name of the seller because of weird name. There are other places. I am trying to remember the damn
name, but i just can't.
Anyway, how much do u guys think that a Fadel 3ood runs in the US?

Due to the current situation with so many fakes, I estimate an authentic one in top condition around 2000$
A Fadel from the best year can be worth more.

Pretty expensive, but worth it for sure!
I am gonig to put a couple of pictures of my fadel and u guys can look at it and tell me what u think.
Man, its been in the trunk of my car for about five days now. I hope it's still in one piece.
