Iraqi, Turkish, Arabic...

So in the past 24 hours I have found out that there many different types of ouds from around the world.
I don't really know the differences between them. Style? Size? Neck length? Probably all of these things and more.

I was turned on to ouds by listening to Naseer Shammah and John Berberian, I would guess that Naseer shammah plays an Iraqi oud?

I will search around this site and im sure will find answers to these questions..Is there a site that offers descriptions on different types of ouds?
Thanks for listening to my jumbled questions!!

Ouds

Dear friend there are many great sites where you can get a lot of information about the different oud varieties. Just search the web for "oud", and also search this forum.

Here's a great site for start:

Good luck

:wavey:Hey Philistine, Check out Mavs website(oudcafe.com) to hear more of the Turkish/Ottoman style of music which is what I believe John Berberian plays. Also check out the oudism page on Mikes website to get an idea of different Arabic artist. Also if you liked Naseer check out Munir Bashir who is another Iraqi oud player.
