violin pegs

I would like to replace my current tuning pegs with fine violin pegs. I've never done this before, and I've found violin luthiers to be pretty un-cooperative. Do any of you have advice as to what dimensions, wood choice (ebony, rosewood, boxwood) and style work best?

I heard ebony Viola (not Violin) pegs work best on an oud. Check out http://www.internationalluthiers.com/violinparts.php

You'll also need a peg shaver and a reamer to fit the pegs to the oud. http://www.internationalluthiers.com/tools.php
I've never done this, so maybe someone else can advise in the details of fitting them

Here's a link for peg installation You don't reall need the shaper as the pegs are manufactured with taper. You will need to fit them as described in this article.
