Spacing between strings in a course

Hello all,

At the bridge, Should the spacing between the CENTERS of the two strings in a course be the same for all pairs of strings in each course?

OR

Should the width of the GAP between the two string in each course be the same for each pair in each courses?

AND

Would the smae seperation between the two strings in a course apply at the NUT?

IF the CENTER to center specification is used, then the width of the gap between the strings within a course will become narrower as the the string gauge gets larger.

Also, if the seperation between strings within a course is made smaller at the NUT, then the strings within a course will be closer togother at the NUT. (Note, I am not talking about distances between courses)

So which is the proper way?

Regards,
Elie

I've observed that the master makers use 2mm center to center at the top nut and 3mm at the bottom. I believe the intent is to make the playing technique consistant, so center to center distances being equal would provide the same feedback for all strings. If you were to use different spacings between different strings, your technique may be compromised trying to compensate for the differences. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
