Istanbul: music-related things to see and do

Hi everyone,

I'll be visiting Istanbul for the first time in March, for 10 days. I play Turkish oud and my partner plays the bendir / frame drum. Can anyone recommend any oud or oriental music-related things to do in Istanbul? For example, luthiers, music shops, music groups / concert halls, festivals, etc.

I'll also be in Cyprus for a week in June, if anyone has any music-related tips for the island.

I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Thanks :)

I would visit Faruk Turunz’s shop. He is one of the best luthiers in the world.

Hi Edward, thanks for reminding me about Türünz... I had forgotten he was based in Istanbul. Are there any other noteworthy luthiers in the city that you would recommend visiting?

I would definitely recommend Ali Nisadir. He personally makes each instrument and they are musically quite wonderful. On the European side down near the river
