creating a balanced LaBella or Daddario set

i spent much of the past week on the Daddario string tension tool http://web.daddario.com/StringTensionPro/and a Newton converter, based on a lot of reading through various threads and posts here.

The broad consensus, pointed out by Brian Punka and others, is that generally the Daddario and La Bella sets, are pretty light on the top two courses with the third course pretty heavy and the others, maybe ok.
tHis was my experience as well strining up the Temel Sehiit project oud ( see separate thread)

i dont know if the tension figures on the LaBella are the same as Daddario, but at least one could get a sense of how they relate within their set.

i was also curious as many people are interested in running Arabic tuning on a Turkish scale, would play out, so I did that where applicable:

La Bella OU80 Turkish

i tried this on the Sehit, swapped a .025 and 032 in the top two courses , but the 032 was a little tubby. but my action is off quite a bit too.

at 585mm:

6th is light, 5th is heavy, 3rd felt heavy to me in that spot, 1st and 2nd are light:

D .042W 35.85N
G .034W 40.39N
B .030W 37.28N
e .025W 37.23N
a .028 26.24N
d .022 28.87N

OU80A at 600mm

note how heavy the d and high f are relative to the rest of the set, thats really out of whack:

C not included but .043, often recommended, yields 33.05N

E/F .033W 27.8N or 31.18N
A .029W 29.8N
d .023W 36.18N
g .031 29.36N
c .027 26.82N
f .022 42.93N

Daddario EJ95 (original/Turkish)
at 585mm

this set seems out of sorts to me, with the third and fifth courses heavy and the 1st, 2nd, and 6th courses light:

D .041W 34.65N
G .033W 37.37N
B .029W 35.67N
e .025W 37.23N
a .028 26.24N
d .022 28.87N

Arabic tuning of EJ95 at 585mm, in Newtons (pretty floppy)
C 28.96
F 31.18
A 29.8
d 31.09
g 21.89
c 24.11

Ej95A, Arabic set,
but in Turkish tuning at 585mm:

not too bad, though the high d is a bit stiff:

D .043W 39.54N
G .032W 34.52N
B .028W 36.80N
e .024W 35.41N
a .031 32.16N
d .026 40.3N

Based on all the above . and also keeping with something i read here that some Turkish players (Yurdal, Cinucen) preferred a little stiffer top courses, i came up with a couple of possible better balanced Turkish sets:

slightly high:

D .043W 39.54N
G .033W 37.37N
B .030W 37.28N
e .025W 37.23N
a .032 34.25N
d .025 37.28N

medium:
D .042W 35.85N
G .032W 34.52N
B .029W 35.67N
e .024W 35.41N
a .031 32.16N
d .024 34.34N

mixed
this keeps a higher 6th, 1st, and 2nd courses, and a little lighter on the middle ones.
D .043W 39.54N
G .032W 34.52N
B .029W 35.67N
e .024W 35.41N
a .032 34.25N
d .025 37.28N

i dont know if pvf trebles would help here to get a tension on the 1st and 2nd courses around 36 or 37N but thinner.

i did configure a lowish tension 600mm Arabic set based on all of the above:

C .043W 33.05N
F .034W 33.72N
A .031W 32.43N
d .025W 31.09N
g .033 30.43N
c .026 33.63N

hope this was helpful, and folks feel free to chime in!
