frets

anyone with a stash of antique persian miniatures of inestimable value at hand? i'd like to know if evidence exists to suggest whether frets were used on any stringed instruments for the playing of early arabic music. if so, were they double or single frets (as used on european lutes).

just idle curiosity...there's no thesis in the making.

Frets

Hi Bill

No Persian miniatures, unfortunately, but we were just talking about frets in early ouds in this thread:

Cheers

Cantigas

Thanks for that link, Bill, some very interesting stuff there. I had heard of Alfonso X and the Cantigas, but didn't know much about them at all.
