HASAN CİHAT ÖRTER (Composer, Guitarist, Arranger)
He was born in october 23 th in 1958 in İstanbul.He started his music life playing piano and violin in his early
Childhood .Then he met classical guitar when he was 5 years old and had been tought by Antonio DOUMESITCH when he was 7 and he attended his courses
for five years.At the same time he was interested in jazz guitar and he became proffessional player performing with small orchestras when he was
12.
In Üsküdar Community of Music he attended Turkish music courses of Emin Ongan and took courses on Makam
And Nazariyat.He made researches on Turkish Folk Music with Şemsi Yastıman who is a master of Bağlama
(a string instrument used in Turkish Folk music) and has developed a new approach to the instument.After his high-school education he qualified for
scholarship “New Talent of Success” from Berkeley Music Academy
and went to USA in 1976 and studied there until 1979.After he had finished Composition and Armony courses
there he was graduated in two years a school of normally four years wih high grade . Prof.Gordon Delamont asked Hasan Cihat Örter to become his
student and he had taken high composition courses from Liege Conservatory of Belgium Royal Academy.Here he obtained his master’s certificate and
doctor’s degree.
He was honored with the “leading masters who have served on Turkish music”(TÜRK MÜZİĞİNE HİZMET ETMİŞ ÖNCÜ
BÜYÜKLERİMİZ) award by rectors of İstanbul Technical University and Mimar Sinan University state conservatories.
Because of nhis military obligation he returned to his homeland TURKEY and in Turkey he performed with big orchestras and published his albums.At the
same time he started composing music for advertisements,
Documentary films and dramas.He joined the İstanbul City Orchestra, which was founded in 1989 as a payroll musical artist and resigned
voluntarily after 8 years.(in 1998)
In 1994 he joined Modern Folk Trio and played guitar with this group.Additionally he made vocal music with
his group.Furthermore he became responsible of the musical arrangement of the group.In 1995 with his group
he performed at International Houston Jazz Festival in USA,open air concerts in Harbiye and concerts in 7 different cities.In the same year he
performed at International Akbank Jazz Festival.
In the 1. Girne Golden Olive Competition he became the winner in composing and singing and in 1993he publised his first album “ The Adaptation of
Anatolian Melodies with classical guitar” .The Album named
INSPIRATION was sold all over the world.Thus our musical artist entered into the list of E.M.I which is one of the biggest record companies, so he was
awarded by the Golden Record. He publihed these compositions as researches and essays in a book. The number of these compositions are approximately
2000. He made an album,
Which is dedicated to worker women of the world named “Symphonies of the Woman”.In 1996 he publihed also another album “Istanbul Songs of the
Modern Folk Trio”. At the end of the year 1997 his album
Named “Re-Formation” (instrumental compositions of Turkish Music New Age) was publihed.At the end ofthe year 1997 the remix of his album “Re-
Formation” was published by London Southern Cross studios.His sixth album INSPIRATION RE-MIX entered into the list of Sony Music European
Catalogue.USA Billboard magazine declared that Hasan Cihat Örter is the first musical artist, whose albums are sold in 30 countries.This
Made him to become the first in Turkish Jazz music. In 1999 the Sound Track of the film “Letter” (Mektup)
1998 Raks and Re- Formation 2 (Anadolu Esintileri ) (Anatolian Breeze) New Age Sony Music) started to be sold all over the world..
He publihed LOVE and SADNESS (Ezgi Media –2002), Subdued Scream of the Guitar (Gitarın Sessiz Çığlığı
(Genç Music 2003)(in the memory of his student Yavuz Çetin),Love Soars of two Dervishes (Seyjan Music 2004) .He published “Tears of the World”
from EMI in 2004 using nickname “Üstad” as a wish thet love ,peace and understanding dominates all over the world. Classics 1-2-3, consist of his
favorite songs.Symphony of Kabe
and Hicret were published by his own music company.he thinks that the humanity: Symphony of Kabe and Hicret is the most magnificent album in his 18
albums and approximately 2000 compositions.
He joined the programme “Our own instruments our own jazz – what’s up?”by playing live music with his orchestra.
He composed original and generic music for approximately 200 documentary films such as
.STATE IN EXILE, MENDERES, , SCARLET SUN ,SULTAN GALİYEV, THEN AND NOW,
DOCUMENTARY FILM ON CYPRUS,SOUND TRACK CLIP OF CYPRUS DOCUMENTARY FILM,DOCUMENTARY OF THE REPUBLIC,THE BIRTH OF THE OTTOMAN EMPIRE,FATIH THE
CONQUEROR,HOMELAND I WAS BORN,LATEST WITNESSES,SUMMER UNIVERSITY 2003,PRESENTING MUSICS OF ISTANBUL. Like “ The Youth Festival in Cemal Reşit
Rey “,”The International Guitar festival” ,”Istanbul Music Festival” “1995 Akbank Jazz Festival” he performed at many International
festivals.
In2005 he presented his album SENDEN YANAYIM (“I’M BY YOUR SIDE) whose lyrics were written by
AKIN OK. In 2006 his “FRETLESS SONGS” album and “EVERYBODY CAN PLAY GUİTAR”(2 VCD
AND 1 BOOKLET) were presented to the lovers of art.
He prepared and presented the TV programme “Musıc and Us “ on TRT 2 which had been presented for 4 years.
He had arranged an outstanding original live programme “MUSIC WHICH COVERS THE NIGHT,on STV for 3 years.
He prepared the book “BUZUKİ EROL-EROL ÖRTER” with his uncle Erol Örter(Bouzouki Erol), who is good at rembetiko- and made an arrangement
of REBET songs.
He has been honoured with approximately 3000 awards until now.
“Verses in two lines” (Birun Publisher 2000) ,The Artist (Bemol Music 2002),Instrumental Compositions of Saz (Turkish music instrument)(Bemol
Music 2003),Therapy Methods with Music and Researches (bemol Music 2003), Classical guitar compositions from Anatolia with VCD (Bemol Music 2004) are
his important
books.
Additionally he made also Turkish Republic State railways composition, compositions for the association
Of fighting against traffic monster, the police college march,the 8 th army corps march of Elazığ,Beşiktaş sport
Club march, Üsküdar composition,Ümraniye composition, the 80 th Year March of TURKISH REPUBLIC.
He has been nominated as honorary lawyer , the award was presented to him by the head of the body of lawyers
(bar) attorney Kenan Çebi and the bar of Ordu. He had been outfitted with a lawyer gown.
His name was given to a street while he is alive. The name of “Iskele arkası sokak” (THE STREET BEHİND PORT SIDE) where he lives was
changed to “BESTEKAR HASAN CİHAT ÖRTER SOKAĞI” (composer Hasan Cihat Örter Street)
The Composer has given many concerts in many different countries such as USA, RUSSIA, NETHERLANDS,BELGIUM,ENGLAND,FRANCE,YUGOSLAVIA,SPAIN,
ITALY,GERMANY,INDIA,
AZERBAIJAN,AFGHANISTAN,JAPAN,CHINA,CYPRUS.
While he is making arrangements for his compositions he also plays all instruments.Hasan Cihat Örter mostly known as guitarist but can also play
these instruments professionally.
He has been working in his Home Studio which was converted into museum. Within his extra time from his concerts local and abroad he gives speeches
about music and enlightenement of community against musical degeneration,media which makes poor quality broadcast such as televole and cultural
degeneration.
