Cinucen Tanrikorur
Hey everyone,
I saw in an old post that there were postings of the great oudist Cinucen Tanrikorur and Necati Celik and I was just wondering if there was any way
that those posts could have been re-posted.

I haven't heard much of Tanrikorur's playing, but at first hearing I'd have to say I really like it. It's like half way between typical Levant style,
and Turkish style. Really nice. Mav, do you recommend and albums of his?

I don't think he has many solo albums, but I know he's on various compilations also. Honestly, i think we should be able to find that CD for less
than $30. I need to add his stuff to my collection as well. He's a great inspiration.
Take care,
mavrothis

You can find a VCD which I think is a video that Cinucen has at
http://www.tulumba.com/icy_itemdesc.asp?ic=VI269875XC309
and here is another cd that he compiled in
http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B000051SKZ/002-2710915-6265602?%5Fenco...
and Mav you are right about that 30 dollars so here is another one that maybe you can try

Thanks again to everyone

Yurdal Tokcan
I am sorry again guys but was Yurdal Tokcan a student of Cinucen's because from what I am listening to they have a very close technique (same goes
with Necati)???
So please answer me this question anyone?
Meanwhile here is a link to who I think is Yurdal Tokcan but I am not sure.
http://www.turkishmusic.org/index5.html
you have to go to EMIRGAN ASSEMBLE and then to the UD TAKSIMI
They also have some other really nice pieces. From what I read on other sites is that Yurdal has played with that Ensemble.
Thanks Everyone

I don't believe so. My wife and I are currently writing Yurdal's bio for the US release of Hisyenis, and there was nothing about him studying with
Cinucen in there. However, I know that he did learn considerable amounts from Necati - they played alongside each other for several years in the
Istanbul Devlet Turk Musigi Toplulugu Mudurnu, the government ensemble that was formerly led by Necdet Yasar. I'm sure that some of Yasar's wisdom
about makam also made an impression on Yurdal.
Something I have no info on - I wonder how much of Yurdal's interest in the fretless guitar was inspired by Erkan Ogur. I "hear" Erkan's style in
"Hisyenis," as well as the really fast virtuosity characteristic of Targan, earlier Cinucen recordings, and Necati.

Hey Everyone,
Thanks a lot for the information Eliot, it is much appreciated.
That is very cool that you are writing his bio for his cd. Do you know if Yurdal ever comes to the California area since that is where I am located?
Does he ever tour in the U.S.?
I for one would be very inspired to attend his concert. Can anyone tell us if he ever tours the U.S.?
Thanks Everyone
And you are right he is like a mix of all of those musicians. Yes, you can feel a little of Erkan Ogur, that guy is amazing. He really took the guitar
to a new level. Erkan was on tour with the great Armenian dudukist Djivan Garparyan last year in Turkey. I heard it was a totally amazing show and
that the Turkish were totally amazed, and Djivan and Erkan, WOW what two great musicians. I'm sorry to go off topic everyone.
Thanks Eliot
Thanks Everyone

There's a chance he's doing a North American mini-tour this fall to accompany the release of Hisyenis. It might be with Derya Turkan (kemençe) - I'm
not sure. If it is happening, it will be put on by golden horn productions. Keep checking http://www.goldenhorn.com for details. I'm not involved with that aspect of things.
He hasn't performed on the west coast before, I believe - I'm not even sure he's performed in North America at all, though he does get "out there" in
Europe a bunch.
You're right, Erkan is a great musician - one of the greatest creative geniuses in Turkey right now, both as a builder and performing artist.
