I found an image from a UK web page that looks exactly like the one I got (and use) here in "Yankeestan." The "holder" at the bottom is nicely padded and not curved; I prefer the type with the "strap" across the top. I set my ouds in face-first.

Hope that helps.

Peace,
Udi John

Me too.
Exactly the same stand and the same way to use it : the face first.

Hi oudheinz :wavey:

I use this ones:K&M

it fits for my turkish and arab ouds, although the sizes are very different.
My turkish oud is small and the arab one is pretty large (Sukar)
I prefer them because the neck is untouched and the ouds rests very stabil.

Greet`s

Marcus

I too use a K&M stand but this one with the curved arms, I bent them open a little, the oud faces out.

thanks for all the replies,
the K&M stands seem to be what i need. i somehow got used to my hercules guitar stand now, but it is not ideal, since the oud is partly hanging on the pegbox (and pegs).

putting the oud "face-first" into the stand would solve that...
maybe i should do that...

Whoa, Oudheinz!

The Hercules looks like one of those post-modern, super-minimalist stands that make me totally nervous! I guess I'm a bit of a Luddite (helps explain why I like to play oud and sing 2,500-yr-old lyrics!).

It looks like it's made to clip closely onto the neck/pegbox of the guitar and appears that a good portion of the weight is held at the top/clip, which is probably fine for an electric guitar, but not good at all for an oud.

Good luck!

Peace out,
"Udi" John

Yes, basically all the weight is held by the pegbox and the neck.
The oud is very light. Do you think the guitar stand does damage to the instrument?

I would imagine so (though I'm no expert), since even thought the oud is much lighter, unlike an electric guitar's, an oud neck is not reinforced with metal.
