posted in ouds ouds ouds but maybe here is better. i am interested in learning to play the oud. i do not play guitar or other stringed instrument. should i take guitar lessons or just jump right in the oud. just thinking its easier to find guitar theacher than oud teacher. any thoughts.

I know an oud teacher here in Toronto. If you e mail me through my web site <roypatterson.com> I will send you his phone number. His name is Nabeel Shehade.

I would say that if you like the oud just go for it. I am a guitarist and the techniques are very different. In my opinion if you already play the guitar you might have some advantage if taking up the oud, but I don't see it as a "stepping stone." Perhaps other guitar player/oudists have an opinion on this. Brian?

Cheers,
Roy
