Thanks for these wonderful videos. For my taste this CD seems to be a must have. I wish, I would have been in the studio too to take photos, though I
only have a 20D.

Just had another listen now the kids are in bed and I love the way the oud hasn't been compromised by the setting - it is still very 'udi', and the
build up through the piece is quite something - but these are all fantastic musicians used to playing responsively.

I have the CD and it's wonderful.
I am listening to it now and I am completely blown away. What a great combination of fine musicians. And so well recorded. John Patitucci's double
bass sounds INCREDIBLE.
Master Faruk's oud sounds exceptional in this recording. It is a fine instrument from a fine luthier. But, as always, it's the fingers and soul of the
player that completes the magic and Joe delivers magic in abundance.
It is hard to believe that five musicians from opposite ends of the world could come together for a two-day recording session and turn out fifteen
tracks of such exceptional musical and technical quality.
Mabrouk Joe and James, this is now my favourite of your several albums.

You know, at high bit rates, with the best converters and settings, honestly, I can't hear the difference between a CD and an MP3. If you try a
double-blind comparison, it seems very few people can. Given that CDs are only 16 bit at 44.1, and a good MP3 made by pros will usually be created
from a 24 bit 48k WAV file, it's not out of the question that a 320 k MP3 might even sound better than a CD. I don't really know where the
"break-even" point is. It's like JPG and TIF, hardly anybody bothers with TIF any more.

Well, as it seems, I have better ears 
But this is not the only reason. I'm a collector, who wants to have booklet and a CD, which I can play everywhere ... my car hifi isn't MP3 compatible
and I don't need a new one, because I hate MP3 I always buy CDs or Vinyl.

I do understand why you prefer CD, but I'm not sure as to audio quality, there are settings in MP3 compression, like stereo image compromises, that
can be bypassed. We'd need some good blind A/B tests with MP3 that are well made.
As for the history of the oud in western music, I just found something last night. I was watching an interview with Speed Caravan's Mehdi Haddab:

and he mentioned Ganimion, as one of his influences. That blew my mind, as I had that album in 1968 or so, and it made a big impression on me, along
with Sandy Bull's use of the oud, also in the late 1960s.
Hamza El Din was Sandy's friend and teacher, it's how Sandy found the oud. Hamza El Din played a Nubian Music that never existed, as they didn't play
the oud there at all. He was in Cairo, studying engineering, and picked up the oud, then adapted it to some Nubian "folk songs", but I suspect he made
it ALL up. Then the waters of the Aswan Dam covered up the Nubian lands, and only Hamza El Din remained. He was a great performer and became a world
emissary for the oud and his mythical Nubian Music, and was a wonderful man. He died a few short years ago in Berkeley.

By our standards today Sandy Bull's oud is not phenomenal technique, but he was a pioneer of "world music", and it's too bad he died recently, before
he could be rediscovered.

Anyway, as to Ganimion, I didn't know much about Middle Eastern music then, but I found his album and I loved it, and the oud was there. The album's

Though not related to JT, very interesting info. I didn't knew that the oud's roots in Rock music go back to the 60ies.
