Cleaning/waxing of oud bowl

Any suggestions on the cleaning and waxing of the bowl of the oud? I assume a paste wax would do, but is there anything you folks would recommend to clean the wood on an older oud that really has not been cared for? Thanks for all your help. I really appreciate it.

Lemon or baby oil is safe for all finishes. Don't use an abraisive cleaner sold for lacquered guitars. Do Not use alcohol or any solvent as they will remove the finish(but you knew that). Carnuba paste wax is fine, but buff it with a clean soft cloth before it dries or it can be difficult to remove excess wax. Oil can be used to remove any excess wax.
