Learn how to do a Beautiful taqsim (improvisation) Sombati Method

Learn how to do a Beautiful taqsim (improvisation) Sombati Method:

I saw people afraid of doing taqsims, So I decided to analyse my undestanding and to make things simple. You will see it does not need a PhD in music science....

Let s get started:

Say we have a maqam ( 8 notes): C D E F G A B C
1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8

I- Usually we start to play around each note of the base tetra-notes of maqam 1 2 3 & 4:

1- First mission: we need to show the base note of the maqam; We could start with the note before it, and we settle on that note for a while (5 s).
( this section should take 20 s)

2- We move up to the second note and back and forth with a light melody from our imagination and we settle on the second for a while and then we go back to the base..
( this section should take 30 s)

3- In th esame manner, we develop 1-2-3 and settle to the third note. we play back and forth with and we go back to the base note as usual with nice kafla (end).
( this section should take 30 s)

4- We do the same thing in presenting the forth note.
( this section should take 40 s)

II- Next, we show the second part of the maqam and we its imaginable variations...This requires more skills obviously.
( this section should take 60 s or more)

III- Next step is to develop again the 1 2 3 4 of the maqam but in the highest level (Jawab): this is my favourite. We focus on 7 8 1 2 3 4 with more time on 1.
( this section should take 60 s or more)

7- We finish with the best -kafla- and wait for the applause of audiance.

Usually a taqsim takes about 5 minutes, it depends on your imagination.

You see it is not difficult, So, give it a shot...
