My Favorite OUD CLIP

Hi Friends,
I am always looking for new and interesting clips to keep me learning and inspired with my progress and an oud player. I thought I might be a cool idea to have a thread where we could post our favorite new clips that we all discover along the way - to share this inspiration.

I'd like to start with one of my all-time favorite clips:

such a warm tone.... very different than the modern turkish sound which is much more in your face and sharp - extremely resonant but without soft rounded edges.

Here is my contribution. I'm inspired by many recordings of Farid el atrache and Riad el Sumbati. However, the ones listed below are unique and are emblematic of what I would like to accomplish in my repertoire especiall the second clip.

I'm impressed with Ali Hassan. This video offers some instructional value on risha grip and technique. it's on my list of things to review within the next several months.

This one of Nasser Hawari also is one of my favorites.

I really love this 2nd clip - it is a perfect summary of Arab oud style! I wish I knew about this guy when I was in Morocco in '95

I wouldn't say this is my favourite clip, but it's my favourite player, and I love this one clip just because it is so unusual:

Rahim Al Haj accompanied by Souheil Kasper
Simple but awesome risha.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PmGQ6YIv0_Q&feature=player_embed...

Nicholas Nakhle
Awesome style. Almos hear a hint of busuk at times. I believe that I had a cd of
him playing farid al atrache several years ago. it was stolen and I forgot the name of the performer
barely remember the name Nakhle but not sure if it was him. It was a time before the advent and popularity of youtube when names meant very little to me.The style sure sounds familiar. The name of the CD wa 25th year anniversary of Farid al Atrache.

Ismail Hakkı Fencioğlu, master ud maker, player, singer and composer. I have one of his uds and a cöğür saz that he also made for me. I was very fortunate to meet him in Montréal several years ago. He's a wonderful musician as you noticed and a good friend. I learned immensely just by watching him play and sing.

Check out his Myspace and website:

Another Turkish unknown AMAZING player! Where do all these WIZARDS come from??! They seem to grow on trees in Turkey! [well I guess you could say the same for amazing rock and jazz guitarists in the West].

Serdar Aygün
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Og_E2pMtoio
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv59UXVbG_4

...although he plays a little bit out of tune sometimes it seems --- strange because obviously a GREAT player. Sometimes I get the feeling that these guys are just "rattling it off" like "talking smalltalk with a friend"... not fully concentrating on what they are doing ---- wow, I would love to be at the point to play like them as easily as jabbering with a pal!

Don't know about my favourite, there are too many. But this one first got me into the oud and made me want to learn:
