Amateur in need of an Egyptian oud

Hello
I am really glad I came across this site. My experience as a musician is fairly limited.
I played the keyboard/piano as a kid but with just hearin and playing.
I've never fell inlove with a sound of an instrument as I did with oud. I'm a filmmaker and always have been attached to music in films played with oud.
For the longest time I have been wanting to play oud but never got around it.
I am interested in buying an Egyptian oud, the low pitch sound, rageh daouds el kit kat, that kind of sound, but I don't know where
To go and what exactly to look out for. I'm in Los Angeles and I haven't been having the best of luck finding a place to buy an authentic Egyptian oud.
Anyone know where in the southern California area? What price range should I be considering? What to look out for in an Egyptian oud?

I'm sorry that I blabbered alot but this is something that has been building in me for years and want to start learning and mastering

Hope to hear from you soon
And if you please have any tips on lessons, books , videos or whatever let me
Know

Welcome Hsaid,

As far as instructional material; Learn Maqamat by OudProff is a must...you can purchase it on eBay
http://cgi.ebay.com/LEARN-MAQAMAT-OUD-VERSION-2-OUD-BASICS-/2507018...

Visit the 'Learn to Play' section of this web site; you can download some instructional videos.

As far as buying or finding the right oud for you...that is a long process just like finding a lover; but should be fun and more importantly, educational.
Regularly check the 'Buy and Sell Ouds' section of this site to see what is available.
A good oud will cost you $600 - $1,000; trust me, I've payed less and that oud is now hanging on my wall.

This page will answer more questions than I can; use it often.

So you see; your question is so personal only you have the answer to what you want and now must put in the time and effort to make your dreams come true!

Good luck and happy hunting!:D
