taksims. . . that's when I get into trouble. I run out of ideas, and they tend to get a bit boring. One day. . .

Thanks. I hope we keep these going, because it will sort of force me to study this stuff.
I used Jameel's first. Something about it--it's just easy to play. Not sure what it is--the shape of the neck, I guess. Just fits right. And the
sound is crisp and clean, and has filled out a bit--a lot more midrange and bass. I really like it.

sorry guys I was away for the long-weekend holiday of Queen Victoria. I just got back in time to listen to this wonderfull Rast taqasim.

Man, I have to say, you all just keep amazing me. I have a folder on my home computer that has a collection of all the files that various forum
players have posted throughout the last few years, and it's nice to go back and listen sometimes to how great some of you guys are, and how rapidly
some of the players have progressed.
From Mike's page on Farid...
"So, if I want to talk about Farid el-Atrache, I would present his songs, his compositions, and his music. That will speak for Farid el-Atrache."
Sometimes, we get so caught up in discussions and debates (...sometimes, arguments), and we forget that what speaks for us, as for Farid el-Atrache,
is the music.
I've learned much about Jameel, for example, from the taqsims he's posted throughout the years. Yes, I read of you (Jameel) as the oud maker (and what
an oud maker at that!), and I hear of who you are as a person through your playing. Quite the taqsim, my friend. You never fail to amaze me. I must
say, I like that introduction at 0:33 - 0:47. I went back to listen to it as I'm typing this, and if I wasn't sitting in a computer lab right now, I'd
shout Allah aleik! 3:15 - 3:22, nice tribute.
Emad, I really like that move at 0:21, where you repeat the notes. Very dramatic and thoughtful. You're quite the player, and each time I hear
something new from you, I remember why I felt that urge once-upon-a-time to make that page for you, which you've so gratefully mentioned so often, and
though I haven't been there to say "don't mention it" every time, I wish to say so now, as well as "you're most deservent of that and more." By the
way, 4:00 - 4:10, nice tribute as well.
Jonathan... I don't know what to say for you. The only thing greater than hearing you play is watching you play. The feeling becomes visible. You, no
doubt, have a huge amount of feeling in you as evidenced in that bass hit at 0:49. Keep up the great work, my friend, and I hope to see you (and hear)
you soon.
I apologize if I didn't get to the other players, though I undoubtedly will in time. I want to write personalized ones for each of you, but as I was
typing, only the posts on this page appeared. I will get back to the first page soon. Adnan, Samir, and Lee, I will get to it.
And just a general comment for you, Samir, as I think you post more consistently in terms of sound files than the rest of us... I've heard you since
you began to play and I hear you now. My goodness man, what progress. Hats off to you.
Everyone, keep up the great work! You're all quite inspiring to me. I am humbled by you.

So... to continue from the previous post...
Samir, I was just listening to that Hijaz one posted above. I like the section from 1:14 to 1:16, very soulful. I wish we could hear more of the
2:03-2:07 section. Seems like you got an idea... no, a feeling, and that was quite the feeling. Please elaborate. 
Lee... what can I say, man. 0:17... what a move! I've listened now to it maybe 6 or 7 times, and I hear new expression in it every time. You're
something else, my friend. Your feelings of expression are only paralleled by the (unparalleled) love for the music that I've seen from you.
Revaldo... I have another file of you playing some "noodling" around on the oud. And now I hear this stuff from you. I think everyone will agree here
that you've been practicing a great deal (inti bet zaker men warana wala eih??)... and it's paid off. Continue down this road, and you'll just keep
surprising us every time.
I wish I had more words to say what I wish about you all and your music. Maybe... thank you.

Man what can I say, for some reason I haven't clicked on this thread for a long time.
3emaad as I've always said, you're playing has that beautiful authentic arabic sound that I've been trying to accomplish for since the day I
picked up the oud. btw, how do you get that cool background music? I use audacity to record (its free so its very limited)
Jameel, I have to agree with Sydney, you are much too humble. That was a graeat recoring. Are you using the Nahat replica that you built a few
months back? That oud sounds killer. You can praise others all you want but a man who can build such an amazing oud and play it so beautifuly is at
the top of the oud hierarchy (kind of a funny concept),
Sameer, man in a few years you're going to sound like sunbati or qasabji! I'm so shocked at how much you've improved on this recording. You
usually sound better everytime you post but this by far out does all the others. Keep at it man.
TP, what can I say? I didn't even remember that recording until you brought it up. You really blew us all away with those videos mike posted on
the mp3 page. You've only been playing for like 3 years right?
I will post a recording later on tonight. I put new pyramid strings on my shehata last night and it sounds like a tin drum. hopefully I can fix it
a little before posting.
