Oud in the Caribbean

Whenever I go to a tropical place with high humidity, my oud
"swells up" and I can't play the higher notes. Is there anything I
can do to alleviate this problem?

Do a google search for "desiccant packs"
You'll find products such as this... http://www.zorb-it.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=16
When you are in the Caribbean place the desiccant pack in your oud case to help absorb the moisture in the air.

when I return.

bcp, if all it does is swell up, you are lucky. I had a long and messy adventure with an oud that traveled in a soft bag, and changed shape, and more. It has recovered, but those dessicant packs and a hard case would have saved me a lot of trouble. Best wishes!

Desiccant packs work fine IME. Be sure to bake them at low temp every so often, to return them to full absorptive potential.

That said, better a "Karibyan" in the oud than an oud in the Caribbean.

I would play a Turunz in Turins
and a Ramazan in Manhattan but I
would never play a Karibyan in the Caribbean.
