Greek tune by Georgios Dalaras
Anybody can tell me the name of this tune and who it is by?

I love the greek style of oud playing.
I can tell you its a zeibeikiko (in 10/8 rhythm). Ill see if i can get my greek friends to find the name of the tune

it's a zeybek rhythm which is a slow 9/4, not 10/8

It's not an old song, it's written by Orfeas Peridis I think at 1993
Giorgos Dalaras is a singer, not an oud player , he uses a bouzouki risha here.

the song is called "The Cigarettes"
the lyrics are simple (my english are very poor and broken)
they tell about a lonely guy that smokes cigarettes and watch the smoke goes up!

A small correction... George Dalaras is also a *great oud player*, besides a singer. One of the last students of the great master Yorgo Batzanos!

I didnt know that. Are you sure ? Because Batzanos died in 1977 and didnt live in Athens.

You know....sometimes I wonder...if someone goes next to a great Master-Player does it means that he is also great as his Teacher?
I really doubt that Dalaras was Bacanos student,if he was for sure he does not make the name of this Master proud.
He is a very famous and known singer but HE IS NOT AN OUD player.
The Greek school of oud is much more elegant and sweet.Take a good look to Nikos Saragoudas,and Tsiamoulis,and all the other great old
players,Bacanos,Tomboulis....
Anyway,as an oud player I can really fill the guitar pick on his style.and personally I don't like it.

and by the way,I think that on this original song Haig Yazidzian playes the oud,maybe I am wrong,but on Peridis I think is Haig.

I'd like also to travel in Greece and Crète, to listen and try to understand the way the tunes run, and to find a big cretan laouto....
I just got three turtles from Greece, marginata turtles, with man in dress....they look like strange ouds in the grass, but are friendly with the
stranger I am.....
Coming back to this thread, I like the greek song from the first post.

Certainly NOT! But there are a lot of things someone can learn and absorb from such a brilliant musician! Btw, I've never said Dalaras is a *Master
oud Player*, but just a *great oud player*, as Christos Tsiamoulis has told me and as I firmly believe there are a lot of great oud players out there,
and even into this forum, and not necessarily professionals. Oud is primarily played with the soul after all...

Christos has told me that too. Personally, I cannot judge Dalaras "knowledge" and "virtuosity" on the oud, because I don't have any "serious"
evidence apart from one or two videos @ youtube. Yes, I agree with you he's a well-known and famous singer. Besides, singing is his chosen career
path, not the oud.
