Oud Care

I've searched the forum for oud cleaning, oud polish, etc. but all that comes up is about building and finishing ouds. I'm looking for any advice on what to use to clean/polish the oud bowl, back of neck and pegbox on a regular basis. I'm speaking of the varnished areas of the oud and not the soundboard. Should I use guitar polish? Any suggestions woud be appreciated.
Thanks!

Dry rag? Aw, shucks! Y'all don't appreciate a freshly waxed Cadillac hearse?

Varnished wood is varnished wood. I personally use a bit of guitar polish on the back, never on the face. The face cannot be shined unless it's shellac finished, and even then have to be very careful it doesn't harm shellac/french polish. The soundboard has to be first and foremost ungooped and free to vibrate. Right? But I can't see the harm in a touch of wax on the outside skin of the back.

Oh, and a much more elegant way to warm hands and clean oud face than cutting off glove fingers or wrapping body parts in shredded underwear are the Wristies

I was skeptical, but they are great.
He sells Daniel Mari strings at $8.99 too.

aside from an occasional wipe with a lightly dampened cloth to remove grime i leave the face alone - but i've passed a piece of raw bee's wax over the back and rubbed and buffed it in well - very satisfying.

"polishing my oud" in response to "what are you doing?" will raise a few eyebrows.

Nazih Ghadban has an oud care section on his web site that states...
"Combined cleaner-polishers such as those made for use on household surfaces are suitable for synthetic oud finishes."

If it's good enough for Mr. Ghadban, it's good enough for me!
I'm sure that a bit of quality guitar polish will be good for cleaning the back of an oud.
