Slow oud pieces . . .
Hello my fellow "woodmen"! )
I am playing oud for about 8 months now and although I've tried a couple of eastern traditional songs, my repertoire is unfortunately limited to
western music.
If anyone here would be so kind as to suggest a few traditional or contemporary eastern songs I could learn, I would be very grateful. What i am
looking for is slow- mellow-full of emotion stuff. Fast paced or dance songs not so much.
Titles, videos, sheet music - we accept everything!

even if you tried Bint shallabia already, you should listen to the version of the forum membet Luttgut from Norway.Very!! soulful playing!!If you
visit the homepage of his band Tiar dont forget to listen to "Arabisk pols" also.

Cecen kizi is a piece that can be played very slow and very fast, and it's a standard in the Ottoman oud repertoire...

The middle one, as far as I can see it's the only one that accurately notated the Huseyni makam (I suppose the others are for instruments that can't
play quarter tones) although keep in mind that turkish notation is written a fourth high, so the first note should actually read "e" (mi), etc.

A very effective way to get well-versed in the "oriental" repertoire is to study some semai's. Start with makams like ussak, huseyini, rast, niavent.

Secondly, is that really you playing  ??? How many years are you
practicing? If in 5 years i am half as good, i would be satisfied!
And thirdly, are you greek? Because in your mood it says "endaxei", wich in greek ( εντάξει ) it means "i'm ok"!

video of him playing... although I'm trying to get there! Soon, I will have songs of my own to upload, I just started with a new ensemble

Arsene, you're dead right about those ...
... the tone and intensity on those Al Shavarsh Bardezbanian pieces are astounding, particularly the slow pieces where he allows lots of space for the
effect of each note and phrase to resonate and simmer.
I sometimes play these on a long car journey quite loud when I'm alone (no kids etc) and it makes the hairs on the back of my neck tingle.
