I thought first his name was F Amirov, but I think now that may be the composer of the piece... If anyone has more information? Also the pianist is great... I'd like to hear more of these musicians!

No problem, interesting pieces no? His style is very.... rough, but somehow there's something about the whole thing that pulls you in. I really like the pianist's style.

Also nice how they did the second piece, sort of a fusion of jazz, oud and caucasian lezginka music

I enjoyed that - I wouldn't call it rough but there is a simplicity that is refreshing to hear and you are right ... a bit of something compelling.

Reminds me a bit of some of Night Ark with Ara Dinkjian.

Yea, I had to think of Night Ark as well, but don't you feel his style is more agressive than Ara's? Without meaning to add any negative connotation to any of these terms, but these guy seems to be a bit more folk, while Ara is a bit more classical or jazzy in his approach... Either way, it does sort of have the same attraction to it more or less, but i do think thats in part due to the pianists awesome harmonies.

I do like the oudi's melodic patterns - I totally agree with you in that it has some simplicity in it, but a very entertaining one!

Hi Arsene

I certainly agree with you about Ara Dinkjian, he has a very broad tonal and rythmic range and the virtuosity to use it all - sometimes very sparingly (he says wishing he had the same gift ), and they are very different in this way.

I wouldn't say this guy is overly aggressive (I've seen other people play very harshly) but he hasn't got the virtuosity and range and subtlety of Ara ... but then he is his own man and I like it.

Thanks for posting

Found it: his name is Emil Mamadov, and I think his group is simply called Emil Mamadov jazz band...

I really like it! His melodic choices are really effective! Going to try and find more.

[EDIT] - correction, the pianist is Emil Mamedov, oudist is still unknown!
