Lots of dead notes. Perhaps the bridge is too low? It sounds like in the 3rd position that the strings have no room to resonate.

I'm guessing though.

bridge could be too low as Ali Daood said.
But it my experience, this problem could be due to an uneven fingerboard. It most likely is not straight all the way through and bends slightly at the neck joint.

With some work it could perhaps be a nice instruments to learn on though.

Hi,
I don't mean to be an expert, but this remind of some problems I got with several of my ouds, both had been solved by Thomas Dauge, in Bordeaux, for a very reasonnable price:
* first needed the fingerboard to get sanded down, it was unregular
* second was regular but needed to lower action: Thomas glued on it a new fingerboard, very thin at the nut, getting thicker toward trebles.

Maybe a combination of both may solve your problem: sanding the fingerboard, with gluing a new one on it?

I have to say that I have seen the oud of Cyril [DORADO] when I met him in a workshop in Germany.
I am neither a specialist, nor a luthier. But I can say that the problem is that the soundboard is convex. And as the fingerboard 'follows' the soundboard, it's impossible to play high on the fingerboard. This oud is ABSOLUTLY UNPLAYABLE.
Maybe Cyril could provide us pictures which show better the convexity of the soundboard. It is not so evident on the first pictures.

Now, I'll let him say who is the maker of the oud.
Why he chose this particular oud.
And how much he paid for it.

Thank you suz i dil a famous oud maker saw the oud and said that it is unplayable and there is lot of work !!!
Thank you too robert,i have to say that i can't try to "repair" for many reasons: i bought this oud one month and a half ago and i paid for it .........1330 EUROS(shipping+ hard case),yes 1330 EUROS .
I discover the seller on this forum and i thought that it seems serious i was in confidence about his name.He sold the oud as a professional one, the best one,and garanteed by a world famous oud player,he is saad BASHIR and the famous player is omar BASHIR.I trust them and the oud was certificate in the name of late munir BASHIR by THR MUNIR BASHIR INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION.I wait all this time to inform and post something because i'll hope there was a mistake and they will refund me, everyone can dream in this world!!!And also i needed to have some advice about professionals before.I can telling the story in details if someone is interest.Let me know what i can i do i lost all my money for that and it is difficult to pay for repairing a new oud and a "professional oud that's not fair
HERE is two others pictures

Ouch! That sounds bad!

The seller is in this forum and he promised you it is a professional oud? So you paid 1300€ for it and everything you get was a unplayable oud?

Did you buy it directly from the luthier or from a retailer?

Its to bad about your story Dorado. I am sorry to hear that they dont stand by their product. You should get your money back.

From looking at the pictures there is an obvious dip in the top where it usually should be straight. I dont know how that happened or even if it was a "design feature" but technically it shouldnt affect the playing if the fingerboard laying on top of it is straight.

Please Dorado tell us, is the fingerboard resting on top of the face or is it inlayed into the top?
From the pictures and videos, it looks like its inlayed into the top and follows the dip of the face which would make it unplayable.

If that is the case, the best option to fix it I think would be to make a new fingerboard and lay it on top of the old one.

Where are you Dorado? maybe there is a luthier who can help you in your area.

I really appreciate your advice zakiya alali and SamirCanada I LIVE IN FRANCE there is some luthier near from my home but one told me that i should change the neck and the fingerboard because the fingerboard is too thin he can't repair that and it is too expansive for me and i don't want to put money in this oud i am really disappointed the seller don't want to recognise the facts and until now doesn't want to refund me
SamirCanada, i don't understand everything what you ask me i think it is inlayed sorry for my poor english, i have to tell that it is a floating bridge and when the luthier change the strings we saw that the floating bridge was fixed into the varnish!!

Floating bridge fixed into varnish !!! I think that's not floating anymore...

How did you pay ??? If you used PayPal I think there's some kind of grantee, try to look into that in case there was a 3rd party involved in the transaction. All you have to do is prove the product was defected, the luthier should be able to give you a prove, then they'll refund you and get the money from the seller...

Hope everything goes well, sorry to hear about this...

Sorry to hear about your problem, but i'm sure the maker will fix this for you or send you a new oud. Since they are starting this new venture there may be some quality issues to work out at first. you should contact the foundation and work it out with them..

hope this helps.

I agree with ExtreamTarab! Paypal for example does a quiet good job in protecting the rights of buyers. A several times I had problems with sellers and everytime I got my money back from Paypal.

I wrote them an email. Let's wait for the response.

Sure this seller shall arrange you the work to make it playable.

Here is the picture of the oud I was talking about.
The luthier glued a new fingerboard as the old one was inlaid in the soundboard, and action occured to be too high in higher positions.
As you can see there is also a gap, but it is not buzzing at all.

By the way, a fingerboard inlaid in soudboard mean: incrustée dans la table et non collée dessus. Tu as ces 2 méthodes pour une touche sur la table: soit la coller dessus, soit retirer l'épicéa et faire reposer la touche sur le barrage.

Correction...I didn't noticed first the whole back part of the oud was going so deep backward.
Maybe that's why a luthier told you you have to change the neck?

Dorado,

the oud is a living object, it change with the climate and the place.
also the way it was made et etc...plays a role. solide spruce braces should not let the top part of the face to bump.
If you are satisfied about the sound before and after, than the only issue you have is to repaire it easy.
If you can afford the shipping back and forth to me I can do my best fix it for you for free.
there is a way to lower that part if applicaple in just about 2 hours of work.

best regards,
Samir

Best regards, Samir
