the Maqam Anthology

I put this book together myself over a few years.
it contains many Ottoman and Eastern Arabic pieces. There are some Persian and Tunisian ones too.
The book contains about 200 pieces.
People have been finding the book in the Ouds, Ouds, Ouds section. I thought it would be easier to find here.

I just got my copy ! It is an impressive collection really. I will need several decades to explore it...

Thanks Jono for gathering it and Brian for having made it available :xtreme:

Cool:).
I am glad you like the book.
Originally i made it for my own use.
I later realised that there are not many books that cover a variety of maqamat, and include composers from varied backgrounds and eras.
Particularly in the Arabic notation.

Not to ask for egg in my beer, but is there any chance you could add a photo of a portion of a written maqam to your "Images" section on the catalog page? I'm just not clear on what system the music is notated in; is it the basic Western system but with the additional markings to indicate half-flats and half-sharp quarter-tones, or is it something different?

Figuring out how easily I could use the book would be easier with some view of how the music is written. Definitely sounds like a neat work overall though.

Hi.:)
LOL.

I will ask Brian to scan a page.

The notation is standard Arabic style; C = C (Western concert).
(Whereas with Turkish notation; C = F below C).

The neutral ('quarter') tones are notated with a slash through the flat or a half-sharp symbol.
