More information about this oud

Hi!

I got this oud recently.
The pegs are ebony, and I'm not sure about the other woods.
When it came, the neck wasn't glued (at all) with the body, and that made the oud have a terrible action because there was an angle between the neck and body instead of being straight, since the neck was being hold by a nail only.
That is fixed now thanks god.

I wanted to know if anyone knows who makes this one, and how much it costs.

Thanks a lot!

Hey Luan,

Congrats on the new oud, looks like a nice instrument...

I would say it was made by Naiem Sukar, the brother of famous Syrian maker Ebrahim Sukar. I have visited both Naiem in his workshop in Syria and seen other instruments made by him and would be 85% sure this was made by him...

@Luan, what exactly did this loose neck look like, and what did you do to fix it?

Hopefully this didn't have the Sukar adjustable neck, where some parts were missing or loose, which could look to the unitiated like "the neck was being hold by a nail only" and instead of correcting that it got glued down, defeating the whole adjustable neck design.

(The moral of the story might be to always ask on the forum before you do things, or have things done, with an oud.)

@Extreme, does Naiem use his brother's adjustable neck design? I think I remember someone mentioning he did.

It didn't had an adjustable neck, because it was loose.

It depends to whom, where, and exact condition and playability.

I found this link to Naiem Sukar Facebook page.
I would love to try one of his ouds, they look and sound swell!
