Oud on Nazih Ghadban's Homepage

There is a wild looking instrument on http://www.oudnazihghadban.com/home.htm. I speaking of the one with the long narrow "rosettes". Does anyone know anything about this instrument? Have you seen others with soundhole treatments like this? I was just about to try a similar treatment on a new soundboard I'm putting on but was concerned that it migh deviate too far from "tradition". Now I'm going to "go for it"

No center hole

Yes... I noticed that as well. I've also wondered if having no center "hole" would leave a larger vibrating area for the soundboard and do something to the sound of the oud. Conceptually, its like an "f-hole" archtop guitar!

Can the sound be too guitar-like? Maybe Nazih can provide some feedback here (he's been known to post before)

Freya, let us know how your experiments turn out!
