My new Mohammadi Bros. Barbat
Hi,
Just wanted to share my new Mohammadi Bros. Barbat with you all (and show it off a little:bounce .
I bought it from orientalinstruments.com and the service there is fantastic!!! highly recomended.
it has a Rosewood Bowl with Maple stripes, walnut neck and head, ebony fingerboard and pegs. The face is german spruce. The sound is beautiful and
despite its size is louder than my Turkish oud!!!
The construction is amazing, the highest quality!!!

I dont have a decent recording device, and the mic on my laptop makes everything sound like its underwater!!!
But if I can borrow one i will try to put something together.
I think all of their instruments look amazing and judging by the sound of my Barbat I would say that they all play fantastically.

I use D,G,A,D,G,C and depending on the Dastgah I change the bottom D to C and other minor alterations occasionally.

Congratulations for this beautiful instrument !
Can you comment on the 'rollers' at the nut ? Are they efficient to tune smoothly the wound strings without jumps ? It seems an interesting design.
I'm curious also about the holding of the instrument - is it neck-heavy because of the smaller body or is it like a regular oud ?

The rollers are very efficient. It keeps the tuning smooth and prevents the string from splitting at the nut where it would normally. We all see that
because of the angle of the neck the string gets a large amount of pressure where it passes over the nut, causing the winding to split, this doesnt
happen with this design as the rollers ease that angle.
The instrument is very well designed, and not neck heavy, infact I would say the balance is far better than my other Turkish Oud.
