aquilla strings on Sukar? strange...

hello everybody!

It is the first time I change the strings on my sukar sine I bought it (2month ago)

I don't have any experience with arabic tuning strings so I tried Aquilla with copper wounds on light tension

First, I think I don't like aquilla on arabic sized oud...I don't like thin strings...

If somebody could advise me on good arabic strings it would be nice!

but ok I will maybe let them a little to make a try

The wierdest problem that I have is : IMPOSSIBILITY to tune the two treble C together...

first I thought I was tired, but this morning I tried again and it seems like it is really impossible, it always sound awfull like untuned...

Am i drunk or is there a possibility that the strings have some problems? :(

thanks!

Hello,

I've Aquilla super light set on my model 1 Sukar, it works good for me. The gg and cc strings take more time than the copper strings to stabilize. They will after few days of tuning an tuning again.
For the sound and "playability"... I think it's a matter of habits and taste.
Good luck

I don't know if you're drunk or not . . . but Aquila strings are very sensitive to slight differences.

First thing to do is check the loops at the bridge and make sure that they are exactly the same (sometimes one will be a bit higher than the other, or a little father from the bridge, etc.)

If that doesn't correct the problem, then take one string off and reverse it end-to-end. Sometimes there is a slight imperfection in a string that will make it a little different in one direction.

If you still have trouble, you can write to Aquila and tell them you got a bad string, I am sure they will send you a replacement.
All string manufacturers occasionally produce some strings with defects.

Hi Christos,:wavey:

I dont know nothing about Aquillas, but on my Sukar I use Daniel Mari Strings

They have a deep, warm sound, pretty low tension and theiy are cheap.
I never had tuning-problems after they settle down (2-4 days, depend on how much you play). They are really worth a try!

thanks guys !

I think I'll try some of your technique on the c string and see what happens

Do you think Marcus that I could put the D.M strings in my tuning : D E A D G C (low to high?)

do you know where to get them quickly here in europe?

thanks!!:)

Mari Strings are made in NY, he's about 15 minutes from me. Very nice man. I don't know if anyone in Europe carries his strings.

They will work for your tuning.
I ship to Europe, but as you know internat'l mail is always slightly unpredictable.

Hi Christos :wavey:

on my sukar your tuning is no problem, Sukars usually strong ones.

I dont know where to get them in Europe, but my orders never take more than 1 week include the customs-label,mostly 3-4days.

Cheers,
Marcus

Stos, do you mean you tune to the same note and up the neck they play out of tune to each other, but the open note is still tuned together? Then it's that the length is off, like the loops, or the nut or bridge is crooked, or one string is unevenly thick.

I like Daniel Maris a lot too.

I usually buy locally from Bill Ostrie, he ships Daniel Maris to Europe all the time, and he's very inexpensive, $17.98 for 2 sets, $6.75 shipping to Europe.

They're on their way stos!

Mari strings stabilize pretty quickly in my experience.
Jameel made this video a while back on how to stretch out the strings so they will stabilize more quickly.
