Fingerboard

Hi everyone,

I am researching to buy my next oud. And i want o know if the quality of the sound is better of an oud with a short fingerboard or does this matter anyway?

I am a amateur oud player ( still learning ) and i want to buy an oud with a high quality to this to use for many years.

thanks in advance for your responses.

Ask Samir Abbassi aka Sabbassi, member of the forum.
He is your neighbor.

well do you mean the form or the material?
as i know the best length for the finger board of the oud is 19 cm.
the material depends on your desire. these days most players prefer hard woods like ebony for the finger board, while older players have used ouds with softer finger boards, like walnut.
happy new oud anyway

Theres also whether a long fingerboard iz inset into the soundboard or glued on top of it. The latter design tends to mute the sound.
