I have actually built a couple of these but with bass-guitar necks... they work amazing

Is that due to the soundboard material, which is skin in the case of the guembri ?

also I think that the LENGTH of the AIR space is very important --- this air space is shallow but very long - I have a feeling that the long length allow for very low frequencies to form.

It was made according to ustaz Naseer's design some time ago. Shame on me, but I forgot the name of the luthier. As I understand, the double bass was sitting around and collecting dust in the premises of Beit al aOud until by chance i got my hands on it.

I'm glad to see Naseer developing as a designer... this big one really sounds and looks wonderful.

That means, you use regular double bass strings too? No double, but single course I expect.

Exactly.
Right now I'm a bit stuck with changing them. There's not much of double bass strings here in Cairo...

Once, I saw this on youtube. Then I lost it and I just found it again.
Very nice instrument and nice sound.

Isn't the string tension of the Sehrud in the video a bit low? They look a bit floppy.
