A new kind of oud

Have you ever seen such a kind of oud as the one used by this Nubian singer/oudist? It appears it has the oud's body and neck, with pick-up and volume and tone controls, with painted-on frets, guitar-like machine-heads and the courses are, like the bouzouki, one normal string and one an octave higher: cool or what? http://youtu.be/7NcDu1obtGI

It just looks like another personal contraption, an electrified oud of the rural variety. Country folk are resourceful.

They sure are, Fernand. That oud's very ingenious, it should be patented and put into the market. I am sure many first-time oudists will be attracted by its guitar-like characteristics, while more experienced oudists will find it a pleasant diversion from the oud, but still retaining the fundamental characters of it.
The singer/oudist is called Hassan Holandah, by the way.........
