Mohamed al-Harithy

Here is a video of the great Yemeni Oud singer, the question I have is whether the oud has frets or is it just decoration?
IMO the sound isn't different to an un-fretted oud but with no slides its difficult for me to say.

hope someone can clear this up for me.

hi.
great video!

if this were real frets then the spacing between the frets would decrease in direction to the bridge, which is not the case. so these stripes on the fingerboard are just decoration.
thanks for sharing anyway. nice find.

That Oud looks like an original Ali Khalifeh- Any opinions on that? It seems to have Khalifeh's signature pick guard and bridge shape and style- It's beautiful!

Thanks for that ultragroove, i suppose if I had just looked a little closer I could have cleared it up for myself. Thanks again.

As for the oud being an Ali Khalifeh I am nothing like an expert in that field and wouldnt know a Khalifeh if it hit me in the face.
