Jamil Yorgaki Qandalaft
Workshop
Ouds & Violins
& All Tarab Instruments
Aleppo, Alkhandaq st.
1950

Jamil Qandalaft is the second generation of an accomplished oud makers's family in Aleppo. His father, of Greek origins, Antoine Yorgaki, used to work as a beadle in the Greek Orthodox Church, thus he got his nickname Qandalaft ! He was one of the best luthiers of his age, who used to make ouds since the early 20th century. His son Jamil stepped into his father's shoes and tried to make even better ouds. They were Aleppo's answer to Bedrossian (Der Petrossian) family of Damascus. The man lived till lately & passed away in an old age in Aleppo, as much as I may recall. None of his kids were ever known to have any thing to do with ouds.

Good luck
Yours indeed
