Can anyone shed some light on this oud?

I saw this oud yesterday in a music store. Has a nice sound, and plays well. There's no label inside, and the store owner has no idea about who made it, what it's made of, etc. Any ideas?

I'm waiting for the new strings to come in so I could post a recording. Maybe that could help.

This is definitely a Turkish oud, looks like a student model made from mahogany and maybe walnut. I've seen a oud like this one a few years ago is a music store in San Francisco for around $350. My best guess would be that it is made in Izmir, the region of Turkey known for instrument making. I played the oud and it sounded good enough, but i remember the tuning pegs bieng of lower quality. With the right set of strings though i'm sure the instrument has a lot of potential.

Thanks! I'm still waiting on the strings to post a recording. The pegs do like they're lower quality, and am looking into replacing them. This oud does have a deeper sound than other Turkish ouds I've tried. I always thought that Turkish ouds were more high pitched. Is that true, or have I been misinformed?!

Quick sound clip recorded on my phone. These are the old strings it came with. They slowly detune while I play, and the bass F also is falling apart, so it buzzes. Hopefully changing the pegs and strings will fix that, because I really like the sound!

One more. Please excuse the playing. I'm still getting back into it after a few years of not having played at all.

Terrific playing !! I thought the oud sounded a little limited compared with your talent ... your playing is great and I would love to hear you play an oud with a more open sound ... if I had one spare I'd send it to you :).

Thanks for posting ... made my day
