Buzuq for a student needed
Hello all,
I have just registered. I have now been learning cura baglama saz that I bought from e-bay but I love the sound of buzuq. I find it really difficult
to find one on the internet and unfortunately am not planning any trip to Syria/Lebanon in the near future. I e-mailed Sukar who did not respond and
also Nazih Ghadban who resplied but his prices start at 1000 euros which is above my range. Is anyone here selling a buzuq for up to $500 for learning
or can anyone recommend where to get one? I live in Spain. Thanks all.

Appollodoros, I share your love for the sound of buzuq. I have one of Nazih Ghadban's buzuqs and I agree with you that his price seems high when one
considers how little a buzuq usually costs in the Middle East. But his instruments are built with more finesse and skill than the typical buzuq,
better wood is used, and the sound of his buzuqs is something special. They are also especially beautiful. So it might be worthwhile saving and
waiting. If this were a handmade guitar or mandolin or Greek bouzouki Nazih Ghadban's prices would be lower than average.

I guess that you are greek, so check this guy, I dont know if he makes authentic arabic buzuq, never played one.

No luck yet!!
Here I am almost a year later and I still did not find a buzuq other than Nazih Ghadban which are too expensive.
I know the situation in Syria is very sad and saw posts about Sukar... 
Could anyone help me to find an affordable buzuq? Bring me one from the Levant?

Here I am 1.5 years after my first post, still without buzuq... Can anyone recommend anything reasonable here? The situation in Syria is very sad and
I am not getting any replies to whichever luthier I have e-mailed. Does anyone here know about an affordable buzuq for a rookie?

Hello again,
Unfortunately my friend confirms that because of the civil war in Syria, it is very difficult to find or order a buzuq for under $1200.
Since you have been interested in buzuq for a while now, I think the best thing you can do is save up for one of these instruments, from Mr. Ghadban
or someone else.
They are more affordable than most professional level ouds you find these days. If somehow you decide you don't want to continue playing it, my guess
is that if you take good care of it you could resell it for what you paid or just slightly less.

Hi, back again after a half year... I've had no luck in finding any affordable buzuq. The only luthier i find on the internet is Nazih Ghadban which
is too expensive for me. Can anyone share anything that could help me? I really like the sound of buzuqs from brothers Sukar that Wael Kakish is
playing on youtube in 2 short recordings. Anyone with a Sukar buzuq for sale? Or any contact to a Syrian/Lebanese/Turkish/other luthier who can make
one say for under $1000 at least?

Hello
I get in touched with a great buzuk player living in Paris on this subject. He told me he has been asked this question dozens of time, but doesn't
have any other clue than getting directly in touch with a luthier there.
Those instruments are very common in Lebanon and Syria, I guess Palestine too and maybe Irak. I don't remember where I read that but this insstrument
was called the iraki tanbur or smthg like that at the beginning of the century.
Anyway.
Indeed Nazih Ghadban is a true choice if you want a great quality instrument, I rode so many great feedbacks about his buzuq.
For smthg more affordable, travelling there or asking some people from there who can bring you one...but of course you thinked about !
Then I think of 2 others options: making a new soundboard on an affordable baglama (you can find very cheap ones). Or see with a luthier interested in
building new instruments. Maybe Saadettin Sandi ? I saw he is now building european lutes and greek buzuks. Maybe he would be interested for arabic
buzuq... No risk to ask in any case 
Keep us inform if you find smthg, those instruments are indeed difficult to find from outside mid-east.

Out of despair, I contacted Chahine musical instruments Beirut who confirm that 'a quality buzuq would cost you $390'. But they don't ship abroad.
Anyone here with experience with shipping from Lebanon please? Many thanks.
