What's a good Oud Tuner?

Hi everybody,

I just wanted to ask you if you know a good oud tuner that is chromatic and that possibly can help with the half flat tones (E half flat etc).

It would be nice if you can suggest both actual tuners and softwares.

Thank you.

This thread might help you -> http://www.mikeouds.com/messageboard/viewthread.php?tid=13152#pid89...

The tuner is expensive, but what it offers is interesting for a beginner. You can use AP Tuner or Guitools, Logic Pro has a tuner and Tuna Pitch (for free) works fine on Mac...

I did not send my Peterson SC-1 back. I think I had an old battery and since I changed it, it works well and now I'm used to it.

Thank you so much David.

This is helpful.

I logged on the peterson tuner website and it was interesting to me that they had "sweetened tuning " for oud and they talk about Rast Maqam!! which tells me that they are targetting Arabic music.

I think I'll be geting this one.

as for half flats there is an iranian tuner called Rohab that has a built in metronome as well. handy little thing. i personally use a SNARK that attaches to the head stock and picks the sound via the vibrations through the wood so if there is noise in the room like back stage etc. it wouldn't interfere with your tuning :)

Korg LCA 120

Hi baseelo, :wavey:

TheKorg LCA 120 is a programmable tuner where you can tune every 1,5 (or so) cents of a note.

I used it once to bring the frets of a saz in the right positions, and, after getting used to it, it worked fine.

Cheers,

Marcus

Hi Fayyazi and Marcus,

Just wanted to ask you,

Do the ones that you recommended tell you if the note is C2 or C3 or C4 for example, or it just tells you it is C no matter which C it is?

I got the Peterson SC-1 StroboClip that David recommended and I like it but this is the only thing about it. It just says C, and doesn't say which C it is.

I know that in Oud tuning this is not a very big deal but it still makes you feel better if the tuner gives you the exact note.

Thank you

If you have an iPhone, or iPad, the $1.99 Pano Tuner is very good. I have several tuners including the $100 Korg OT120 (which I like a lot) but the Pano is what I usually reach for. It's extremely fast and responsive (I've used it to figure out Maqamat played on recordings), it reads out in Hz as well as musical notes, which is very useful for unusual tunings, and has both preset and programmable temperaments if you prefer working that way. It even beats the Korg OT120 on range, say for tuning of electric bass.

Hi baseelo :wavey:

it`s a while ago that I used it, not shure if it shows wich C it is.
In all pics on the web it shows A 4 ,looks like it`shows the # of the note.
