Choujoun

This is a very strange piece, at least to my ears anyway:

Said Chraibi - Choujoun

Does anyone know where it originates from, or what maqam it uses?

David

I love this piece, I think it's bayyati isn't it? But maybe with a feel as though Ustad Sa'id was listening to a lot of Chinese Guqin music when he wrote it, or something groovy like that. :) I don't know if it's one of the ones he composed when he was in the hospital being treated for cancer, but he spoke about that as being an amazing and strange time for him as a composer and musician, so maybe.
