Dear friends,

I received the first of six oud educational books by Dr. Atef Abdel Hameed, the Dean of the Faculty of Musical Education in Cairo.

The second and third books will be available by May.

The books I have are in English. If you need the Arabic version, plz let me know.

Price is $50 + shipping.

This sounds very interesting. Would it be possible to post some images from inside the book, to get some idea of the content?

Best wishes

David

"training with blacker'' : I'm trying to guess what that means. Maybe something lost in translation?

Dear friends,
As quite a few of you know, I have been a member of this forum for more than 7 years. During that long time, I got to know quite a few decent fellow oud enthusiasts. Some became good friends and some provided me with all kinds of invaluable support.
This is a good opportunity to extend my gratitude for the friendships and the help I got.
It is also a chance to point out that it is the first time for me to receive a cheapshot from someone over a typo.
My question to the admin is: Would that violate the forums' rules?

Dear Hatem Afandi,

I have asked the question in good faith. No sarcasm, no cheap shot, no assumptions about typos. I just don't know what "training with blacker" could mean. I tried to guess and nothing came to mind. How can I find out if I don't ask? I have nothing but good wishes and good intentions towards you and towards Dr. Atef Abdel Hameed. I just want to know what was meant.

Hatem, many thanks for taking the time to post the scans. Oud methods in English are very scarce, so this will be a welcome addition to the resources available to people like me who struggle with Arabic or Turkish.

Jody - I guess "blacker" could be a misspelling of "plucker", i.e risha? The letter "b" is often used in Arabic to represent "p" and short vowels are not generally shown and so are open to interpretation.

All the best

David

I agree with you entirely and I have similar feelings. I apologize for creating any bad feeling, in Texas, Egypt or anywhere else.

Thanks for the explanation.

I would suggest that we review comments before posting.

That comment is not what it seems and I don't like to be neither the source nor the cause for a personal to be mocked.

I am trying to do a favor to Dr. Atef and to my colleagues wh asked me a gazillion times about that series.. I would do the same

to all my firends here as well.

Hatem

Judy,

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate your answer. I deleted the rely due to the poor compsition and typos's. Obviously, I didn't review it before posting.:) SORRY!

David,

My pleasure. Your explanation does make sense.:)
I agree with you and Judy. Perhaps because I am more biased towards the Oud Egyptian School. I have been asking Dr. Atef fo pay attention to the thousands of oudists who live overseas. We don't have access to the resources available under his disposal. The majority of us cannot attend his courses at the Opera House in Cairo.

Best Regards,

Hatem

I have received the book yesterday , it is pretty basic book around 80 pages with some exercises and a DVD , it cost me around $67 delivered to the uk , it is very expensive for what it is. I recommend MArina's Book in many ways over this one( that is my personal opinion)
Hatem is an honest guy and he is only doing Dr atef a favour and provided a good service but the quality and contents of the book is nothing to do with him .
