Like most, I know the version of Bob Azzam that my parents had on 45 tours, the version that made this song famous.
Sorry not much Infos about the origin of this song, but if you're into this kind of mood you should not miss "C'est écrit dans le ciel" of Bob Azzam, one of the cheesiest songs in human history :D

In Greece as far as I know this tune was "imported" from Egypt and is until now a popular dance tune in Rast maqam.
