Lost on Cobza...

Hi Cobza players out there (Koya? Arsene?), I just obtained a cobza from a friend and would love some advice from anyone about where to start! I have seen some of the threads on Mike's but I really need some one on one attention about tuning, getting some of those rhythmic patterns together...really starting from the ground up.

In search of cobza hand holding...help?

Thank you!!!

Adam

Hi Adam,

Sorry for delay. I just find that topic...
I would like to offer for the tuning a special selection from oud strings....
This tuning is also appropriate for GDGC or the higher AEAD and this sound is well tried and liked...

I am usinig D'addario oud or guitar strings.

G: J2706 or guitar E6 (~045'')
g: NYLW026 026''

D: J2704 or guitar D (~028'' / 029'')
d: J2702 or guitar H (~032'')

g: NYL026 026''
g': J2701 or guitar E1 (~027'' / 028'')

c: J2702 or guitar B (~033'')
c: J2702 or guitar B (~033'')

I would like to recommend Fábri Géza's tutorial doube DVD: The Method of the playing Koboz.
It is ready with English subtittle too...
Please write to him this address: koboziskola@gmail.com

Have nice time with cobza! :wavey:
All the best!

Koya
