Abbas El Blaidi
Came across this nice taqsim on Youtube, and it seems the oud player is Abbas El Blaidi. Can this be right? He was certainly a singer, but did he also
play the oud?

He was a decent composer as well. Here's a recording from 1954 of him singing one of his songs, accompanied by himself on the oud and an orchestra.
